Mexico is a profoundly oceanic nation, yet its seas do not face the same challenges or offer the same opportunities. The Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, the North Pacific, the Gulf of California, and the South Pacific each have distinct ecological, social, economic, and institutional dynamics. For this reason, the 2026 edition of Un Día por los Mares proposes evolving from a one-day thematic gathering into a two-day conference that recognizes this regional diversity and allows for a more in-depth examination of how the country’s main marine and coastal challenges are being addressed.
The first day will focus on reviewing the priorities of each marine region, highlighting both progress and ongoing pressures related to biodiversity conservation, fisheries and aquaculture, tourism, restoration, pollution, climate change, governance, coastal development, and community participation. The second day will move from the regional assessment toward a cross-cutting discussion of what is needed to implement a more effective, inclusive, and sustained ocean agenda in Mexico. Together, the two days will provide a platform for building a national vision grounded in regional realities and advancing shared solutions for Mexico’s seas.
This is an in-person only event and will be held in Spanish.
