Collaboration between governments, maritime and logistics companies, ports, and communities is essential to reduce the ecological and carbon footprint of the maritime industry. The 3rd Edition of the Forum on Sustainable Maritime Transport & Ports, seeks to catalyze such efforts by bringing together key stakeholders from Mexico, the United States and Latin America. The forum aims to drive concrete action toward a sustainable maritime industry that supports net zero shipping operations in the region.
As shipping supports nearly 90% of global trade, unchecked emissions could rise 90-150% by mid-century. A low-carbon economy and just energy transition are reshaping global competitiveness, making sustainability a cornerstone for ports and the broader maritime sector.
Convened by the Institute of the Americas, WWF Mexico and CAMEINTRAM, the forum will feature in-depth discussions on standards, regulations, scientific advances, and technological innovation. Through dialogue, we aim to foster cross-sectoral dialogue and mobilize private sector commitments to further regional competitiveness and increase climate action commitments.
Together with industry stakeholders—including shipping, technology, and fuel companies—as well as government officials, experts, and port operators from across North and Latin America, we explore key components of the sector’s transition to net zero. This conversation comes at a critical time, as the region’s maritime industry faces growing pressure from supply chain shifts while new opportunities linked to e-fuels and renewable energy continue to emerge.
Promoting the sustainability, decarbonization, and competitiveness of maritime transport and ports in Mexico and Latin America.
